Category: Dust Combustion
Industry: Food and Kindred Products
Project: Combustible Dust Reviewing

THE PROBLEM:
The facility had a high concentration of combustible dust, rendering them out of compliance with the EPA’s National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) regulations and placing site personnel at risk in the event of a combustion incident. The facility needed to remove this risk and implement best management practices in a quick and efficient manner to prevent any such incident from occurring.

THE SOLUTION:
The client needed the proper regulatory compliance work and a liaison between them and the EPA. They also needed best management practices to ensure the safety of site personnel.

THE RESULT:
We published a best management practices report which provided information pertaining to a standard cleaning procedure to prevent fire hazards and recommended that the cleaning frequency be increased to ensure that the MEC (minimum explosive concentration) would not be reached. The cleaning procedure satisfied the EPA’s regulatory requirements and best management practices to ensure site personnel safety.
